The Shape Remains, Melbourne, January 2025
Working within photographer Mathew Stott’s pre-established concept, this editorial explores the tension between historical costume influences and raw, deconstructed modernity. And it marks my first art direction project in Australia.
Visually, the series plays with contrasts. Textural fragility meets dramatic intensity, with models appearing as spectral figures adorned in distressed fabrics, exaggerated silhouettes, and intricate lace detailing.
The interplay of movement, layered compositions, and moody lighting creates a dreamlike yet unsettling presence.
Painterly softness is juxtaposed against stark, high-contrast portraiture, reinforcing a narrative that feels both historical and futuristic.
The project highlights the work of emerging Australian designer Chelsea Farquhar, whose intricate corsetry and sculptural textiles evoke a sense of timelessness—blurring the boundaries between craftsmanship and avant-garde fashion.

Kenzo Takada, Paris, December 2024
For Kenzo’s exclusive pop-up at the iconic Lutetia Hotel, Barbatana handled both photography and videography, capturing the refined yet dynamic atmosphere of the space.
Through a mix of sharp compositions, warm lighting, and fluid motion, we highlighted the contrast between Kenzo’s bold aesthetic and the timeless elegance of the hotel. The result is a visual narrative that blends contemporary design with Parisian sophistication.
